Visa: (for Italy and Schengen area) information and application |
If you are resident in Switzerland and wish to travel to Italy, you might need a visa, issued by the Italian Consulate General in Geneva or by the Italian Consulate General in Lugano.

Where to apply |
You can apply for a visa at the Italian Consulate General in Geneva only if you are legally resident in the following cantons:
- Aargau, Basel-Stadt / Jura, Solothurn
- Bern,Neuchatel, Freiburg
- Geneva, Vaud, Valais
- Glarus, Lucerne, Schaffhausen, Obwalden, Nidwalden, Schwyz, Uri, Zug, Zurich, Appenzell,
Innerrhoden, Grisons, St. Gallen, Thurgau.
The Italian Consulate General in Geneva issues visa to travel to Italy also to Principality of Liechtenstein residents.

All VISA applications must be filled in online, following the instructions at:

Once the online application form is complete, you should download it in PDF, print it and sign it so that you can submit it to the Consular Officer together with the required supporting documents. Supporting documentation has to be always in original or notarized copy (all foreign documents MUST be translated into Italian and the translations legalized by the competent Consulate). In order to do it, please refer to the Italian Mission in the country where the document has been issued.
Consular Officer could ask for additional documents to complete your application.

To submit the application for a Schengen or a National VISA, you must book an appointment online with the visa office of the
Italian Consulate General in Geneva, writing to: ginevra.visti@esteri.it
Applicants should provide the following documentation:
- Scan of your passport, valid 3 months over the planned travel and with at least two empty visa pages;
- Scan of your Swiss resident permit of stay (B, C, L) valid for at least three more months after the presentation of the application for a visa;
- Scan of your previous Visa (if any);
- Scan of your application form (duly filled and signed);
- Scan of all required supporting documents.
Please note that your application will be rejected if you are missing the required documents. Applicants are informed that submitting
all required documentation does not guarantee the issuance of any visa.
